NEW CAFE ALERT!! A new cafe has opened last week in Halifax town centre! Replacing what was Upstairs Downstairs, The Temperance Movement is situated just outside the market, and I have to say, I am in love! They pride themselves on an extensive tea menu, cold brews, fruit/herbal teas, coffees, hot chocolates and more. They have also joined up with Ritual Bakehouse who serve up the most amazing veggie/vegan food (this is coming from a none veggie).
From the stone brick walls, greenery, to the blue and mustard furniture, they have got the interior just right. Making it super cosy, modern and of course instagramable! The staff are all super friendly and even remembered me from my first visit – which shows great customer service.
Drinks – The drinks menu is easily, hands down, the best in Halifax! If you are just wanting coffee and a catch up get yourself there now! First visit I got an oat milk latte and the second an oat milk iced mocha – perfect for this random heatwave we are having in England right now. I shall also be going back to try their cold brews and iced teas!
Savoury – Ritual Bakehouse serve up some delicious vegan/veggie bagels with spreads, mushrooms and more, as well as a daily soup and snacks. I went for the grilled cheese – 3 cheeses, spring onions, gherkins all on a vegan bagel. Do I need to say anything else? You may be thinking well its just a cheese toastie, but it was easily the best one I have ever had, and that is coming from a huge grilled cheese fan. It was that good I went back yesterday just to have it again.
On the visit we spoke to the owner, Joe and also the team at Ritual Bakehouse. They can’t wait to develop the business, adding more options food-wise and also eventually sell their vegan breads and bagels and believe me I will be first in line for a dozen of their homemade bagels.
Sweet – To say these are all vegan friendly, I was shocked. As well as the bagels, the cakes and pastries top any you can buy in supermarkets etc. All made fresh, in-house daily. They are to die for. We got the salted caramel brownie on our first visit, rich, creamy, simply delicious (go grab one before they go!) Then on my second visit yesterday I went for the lemon cake, and ‘wow’ is all I have to say! You can’t tell they are vegan friendly so whether you are vegan or not I suggest you go check them out.
I already can’t wait for my next visit to The Temperance Movement and I am excited to see what the future holds for them!
